LSAT Alumni | Application Deadline Extended

I know for a fact that some of you are trying to meet the law school March 1st 2011 application deadline.

GOOD NEWS (or bad news...if you've rushed to submit your application already), many law schools have decided to extend the application deadline to April 1st, 2011. Some schools starting updating their website to reflect this change. So before clicking submit be sure to make sure you confirm the correct application deadline - especially if you need a few more days to make extra tweaks to your Personal Statement.

The thousand dollar question - why are law schools extending application deadlines?

Some law school consultants speculate that it's because application volume has declined during this doom economy. No offense, but I seriously doubt that to be the reason for extension.

The more likely reason is because many applicants don't have their Feb LSAT scores yet. The Feb LSAT has been administered a little later than usual this year. So the score reports aren't coming back as early as they used to. Since most applicants wishing to make the March 1st deadline are relying on their Feb LSAT score to apply, it only makes sense that law schools extend the March 1st deadline to accommodate these folks.

All in all, though, remember that law school admissions is based on rolling admissions. If you're applying this late in the game, you're really fighting an uphill battle. The only party benefiting from you applying so late in the game are the law schools that are cashing your application fees. My general advice to people applying frantically to meet the March 1st (now April 1st) deadline is - "Relax. Don't do it. Try again next cycle."
